Music from the UK can be interesting to explore because it was so impactful in shaping various global music scenes. In the 1960s bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Genesis dominated charts across the world, at the same time as pushing the genre of rock into something experimental and psychedelic. And decades later, a fusion of influences created a dance music scene which changed underground electronic music.
A particularly important impact on the UK was its progress towards music engineering techniques and an embracing of experimentation – this is true in rock and dance music. Artists there became creative in the studio to make sounds no one has done before, whether it’s The Beatles groundbreaking work with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band or the youth of the early 90’s speeding up sampled breakbeats 2x faster than hip hop did. But that is not all: Besides and below these famous movements, there were many artists and records that are largely unknown to this day. The newsletter will dive deeper into those.
